A study tested how well smart computer programs understand human emotions by giving them five standard emotional intelligence tests. The programs scored much higher than the human average, getting 81% of answers correct compared to the human average of 56%. Researchers then had a program create brand new emotional intelligence test questions. When these new, computer-made tests were given to people, they were found to be just as difficult and effective as the original tests created by human experts. These results suggest that this technology has a strong ability to understand and reason about human emotions.

Smart computer programs can pass and even create emotional intelligence tests better than many people can.
